Before you get started:

You will need two things to connect your computer to ResNet: An Ethernet Card installed in your computer (most new computers come with Ethernet Cards already installed) and a Category 5e Patch Cable or a Category 6 Patch Cable. Plug your Patch Cable into your computer and into the correct wall jack.
Network Settings
- Click

- Go to Control Panel
- Click on Network and Internet Connections
- Click on

- Under LAN or High Speed Internet:
- If you see an icon labeled Network Bridge:
- Right click, and choose Delete
***NOTE***
Failure to delete the Network Bridge may prevent your computer from working properly on ResNet.
- Choose Local Area Connection
- If it says Connected, move on to the next step.
- If it says Disabled

- Right click, and select Enable

- If you have any other devices listed under LAN and High-Speed Connections (i.e. 1394 Connection, Wireless Connection), they need to be disabled.

- To disable, right click and choose Disable
***NOTE***
Disabling these devices does not remove these devices from your computer. You will be able to re-enable these devices as needed. However, failure to disable these devices may prevent your computer from working properly on ResNet.
Local Area Connection Properties
- Right click on Local Area Connection
- Choose Properties
- Uncheck the box next to File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks
- Select Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)
- Click the Properties button.
- Check the boxes next to Obtain IP address automatically and Obtain DNS server address automatically

- Click OK to close the Internet Protocol Properties box
- Click OK to close the Local Area Connection box
Configuring your Internet Connection
- Open Control Panel
- Go to Network and Internet Connections
- Choose

- Select the Connections tab
- Check the box next to Never Dial a Connection
- Click on the LAN Settings button

- Check the box next to Automatically Detect Settings

- If any other boxes are checked, uncheck them.
- Click OK to close Local Area Network Settings
- Click OK to close Internet Properties
Registering Your Computer
- Open your Web Browser

- If the UNLV ResNet Registration page does not open automatically, type resnet.unlv.edu into the address bar and press enter
- Once you reach the registration page, it is EXTREMELY IMPORTANT that you READ AND FOLLOW ALL INSTRUCTIONS on the registration page.
- When prompted to enter a Username and Password, enter your Pioneer Webmail/Rebel Mail login and password.
- If you do not remember your Username and/or Password, please call the Office of Information Technology's Student Help Desk at 895-0761 to have your password reset.
- Remember that:
- @unlv.nevada.edu is NOT part of your username.
- Your Username is all lower-case letters.
- Your Password is case-sensitive.
