Disable file sharing on Windows Vista
- Click START and type NETWORK AND SHARING CENTER into the Start Search dialog
- On the options that say "File Sharing" and "Printer Sharing", be sure that they are set to OFF.
Disable file sharing on Windows XP
- Click START then CONTROL PANEL
- Click on NETWORK CONNECTIONS. (If you don’t see NETWORK CONNECTIONS, click the icon for “switch to classic view”)
- Double-click LOCAL AREA CONNECTIONS.
- Click PROPERTIES.
- Be sure that File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Network is
UNCHECKED
Disable file sharing on Windows 2000
- Click START.
- Select SETTINGS.
- Click NETWORK AND DIAL-UP CONNECTIONS.
- Double click on LOCAL AREA CONNECTIONS.
- Click on PROPERTIES.
- Be sure File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Network
is NOT CHECKED.
- Click OK.
- Close all windows and restart your computer.
Disable file sharing on Windows 95/98/ME
- Double-click the MY COMPUTER icon on your desktop.
- Double-click the CONTROL PANEL icon.
- Double-click the NETWORK icon. Select the CONFIGURATION tab and then click the FILE & PRINT SHARING button.
- Disable file sharing and print sharing by clicking in the appropriate boxes to REMOVE checkmarks. Click OK.
- Select the TCP/IP protocol that is bound to your netword card. Click PROPERTIES. Then choose the BINDINGS tab.
- Uncheck the box next to FILE AND PRINTER SHARING FOR MICROSOFT NETWORKS.
- Click OK. Click OK again.
- Click YES to restart your computer and put your changes into effect.
Disable file sharing on Windows NT
- Double-click on MY COMPUTER
- Right-click on your hard drive and choose SHARING...
- Set to NOT SHARE
