Keeping Your Expenses Down

College is expensive enough without incurring unnecessary charges. Here are some ways to avoid those "extras."

  • Keep track of your keys. A lock change on your room will cost you $60.00 and a lost mailbox key will cost $15.00. The fee for a lost RebelCard is $20.00 and replacing a damaged RebelCard is $10.00.
  • Pay your residence and dining hall fees on time. The late payment fee is $25.00.
  • Keep your room locked. Theft of belongings from unlocked rooms is the most common crime in the residence halls. How much would it cost you to replace your stereo or computer?
  • Use your room with care. You will pay for damages and repairs that are in excess of normal wear.
  • Report others who are doing damage to common areas. This is your home and when something is damaged it takes time to fix or replace. The most common, inconvenient, and expensive vandalism occurs to the elevators. Report what you know so those responsible will pay for repairs.
  • Conserve utilities by turning off lights, stereos, etc. and setting heat/air conditioning to low when you are not in the room. If utility costs increase above projections, money set aside for activities and events will need to be used to pay for those increases.
  • Keep your bathroom clean. You and your suitemates will be charged for excessive cleaning or repairs your bathroom needs due to your failure to keep it clean. Repainting a bathroom due to mildew build-up can cost $100.00 or more.
