Resident Computer Lab Monitor Job Description

Resident Computer Lab Monitors are student-employees of UNLV Campus Housing. They support the UNLV Campus Housing ResNet program, which provides UNLV's residence hall rooms with computer services and Internet access.

RCLMs should be able to answer basic questions about common computer applications used by students and are responsible for helping maintain the computer labs.

You are not expected to answer every technical question of every student. However, you should be able to refer students to other computing resources, or find the answer from other valuable resources.

Prerequisites

Upon applying for an RCLM position, you must:

  • Be a currently registered undergraduate or graduate student at UNLV
  • pass a background check.
  • Be a resident in Campus Housing
  • Have at least a 2.0 GPA
  • Have basic computer knowledge
  • Be a self-starter and self-motivated
  • Have strong interpersonal and customer service skills
  • Have the ability to teach others
  • Have a desire to learn and succeed.

Hours

Typically, you can expect to work:

  • 10 - 20 hours per week.

Duties

As an RCLM, you must:

  • Have an active UNLV email account and check it regularly.
  • Work all hours scheduled to work or agree to cover for someone else.
  • Be available during your shift to assist lab users and to take care of any issues that may arise.
  • Enforce fair usage priorities for the lab computers.
  • Maintain contact with hall residents in both customer service and casual situations.
